Keeping the debate alive for you to shape our future.

The Dutch national broadcaster VPRO is redesigning the format of its well-established future-affairs program, Tegenlicht, to incorporate a new hybrid and mixed media approach. The program focuses on monthly themes, which are discussed through a combination of monthly broadcasts, physical meet-ups, and online content. The aim of this project is to reinvigorate community engagement and inspire action to shape the future by facilitating ongoing debates during Tegenlicht meet-ups.

During the user research phase, we conducted in-depth interviews with community members, organized focus groups, and distributed surveys to gather their feedback and opinions on the current meet-up format. Based on the insights gained, we developed personas and user journey maps to better understand the motivations and pain points of different audience segments.

These research findings served as the foundation for the proposals of several actions and implementations, including proposing new formats for meet-ups and providing new dynamics and guidelines for organizers to encourage more collaborative experiences.

Additionally, online tools have been implemented with a personal area and a step-by-step toolkit for organizers to aid in the organization of meet-ups and provide VPRO Tegenlicht with useful information to facilitate community creation.
